NILES® INTRODUCES ZR-8630AV, UNIQUE ONE-BOX MULTIZONE RECEIVER HANDLES BOTH AUDIO AND VIDEO SWITCHING

6-Zone Distribution of 8 A/V Sources including 2 Internal AM/FM Stereo Tuners

Minneapolis, Minn. September 25, 2002 - Enhancing its leadership position in multi-room and multi-zone home audio products, Niles Audio Corp. has introduced its first eight-source, six-zone, multi-zone receiver with audio and video switching capability. The new Model ZR-8630AV MultiZone A/V Receiver offers full audio and video switching of up to six external A/V sources, in addition to its two independent internal AM/FM stereo tuners. The receiver, featuring an internal 12-channel audio amplifier, distributes amplified or line-level audio signals, and composite video signals, to up to six zones. It is designed to serve as the central component of a whole-home audio/video entertainment system.

"This is a natural extension of our strategy to maintain leadership in the multi-zone market," said Ivan Zuckerman, Niles president and founder. "Our audio distribution and home theater control systems have achieved a high level of success with dealers and consumers because of their simplicity and reliability. The ZR-8630AV is a one-box solution for whole-house audio-video distribution and control that is based on a platform of proven, successful products.

The ZR-8630AV can distribute up to 8 sources, including two internal AM/FM tuners, to any one of six zones, each capable of sharing the same source. Keypads in any zone provide full system status and control from any zone. All source selection and system commands are executed through Niles "One Touch" control system, where a single touch of a keypad or remote control initiates all command sequences (macros) necessary. Keypads in each zone also provide visual feedback to the user that commands have been executed.

All video inputs and outputs are for composite video signals, and video sources may include components such as a VCR, DSS receiver, DVD player, or a Hard Drive Media Server. All audio and video inputs and outputs feature gold-plated RCA connectors, and the ZR-8630AV is equipped with line-level audio outputs for each zone in the event an external audio amplifier is preferred for a particular zone or zones. All speaker connections on the ZR-8630AV utilize Niles patented, award-winning No-Strip connector, which provides a firm, secure electrical connection using a keyed connector that ensures in-phase speaker connection.

Similar to the Niles ZR-4630 MultiZone Audio Receiver, the design of the ZR- 8630AV is an important departure from that of other companies' multizone systems, Zuckerman said. Instead of requiring redundant programming of IR commands into individual keypads, all IR codes and sequences are stored within the receiver, allowing for centralized programming and editing. This delivers value to an installation in two ways: by reducing installation and set-up time and by utilizing less complex, and less costly, modular keypads. Manual programming is made fast and easy via push buttons and LED visual prompts on the receiver that lead installers step-by-step through the programming process. All System configurations can be downloaded to the PC by utilizing the ZR-8630AV archiving software, which then can be used for programming additional systems and for backing up installations.

The ZR-8630AV MultiZone Receiver enables system wide control over all zones and sources, as well as independent control of each zone. A user in one zone can listens to one source component while another user in another zone watches a different source ( e.g., the DVD can be selected in Zone 1 while the Tuner1 is selected in Zone 5). An ALL OFF command is also included for complete system shutdown from any zone in the system. A wide variety of keypad options for the Niles ZR-8630AV receiver are available including, the Solo, Select, Numeric, Transport Keypads, and the R-8 Handheld remote, as well as the new Solo IR and Select IR keypads with integrated IR sensor for single gang installations.

The ZR-8630AV has power synchronization capabilities which senses whether its source components are on or off and issues the command to put them into their appropriate state. The proper input for the source component is then selected and the programmed sequences of IR commands are issued (i.e., play or favorite station). The ZR-8630AV takes power synchronization a step further by employing Home Theater Synchronization, which allows an IR controlled home theater receiver/processor to be integrated to share source components in a system. Virtually all brands of audio/video components offering IR control capability can be operated when using the ZR-8630AV.

The ZR-8630AV provides power output of 30 watts to each of 12 channels, furnishing clear and dynamic stereo sound for each zone. The receiver uses non-volatile memory , which prevents accidental loss of programming during power failures for the entire life of the product. For creating systems with more than six zones, up to three ZR-8630AVs can be combined in a single system, offering a total of 18 zones.

The ZR-8630AV is equipped with two built-in AM/FM tuners, which are available to all zones as two of the eight source selections. The tuners are programmable with 10 presets for both AM/FM stations, with the use of an optional Numeric keypads direct station access to any desired radio station frequency.

"The ZR-8630AV will be the perfect one-box solution for distributed audio/video systems to a variety of custom installation professionals," said Frank Sterns, Vice President of Sales. "With its simple programming and unique home theater synchronization features, we expect it will become the benchmark by which all other multizone audio/video receivers are measured."

Available in 2003, the ZR-8630AV has an MSRP of $2,995 (not including keypads)
